Aluminium Billets
6063 Aluminium Billets
6063 aluminium billets are extrusion logs of a magnesium-silicon alloy selected for excellent extrudability and surface finish, commonly used for architectural and general profiles. MET ASIA Alloys reviews 6063 billet requirements against relevant producer capabilities, with specifications confirmed per transaction.
Overview
What is 6063?
6063 is a 6xxx series heat-treatable alloy with lower alloying content than 6061. It extrudes easily into complex and thin-walled sections and responds well to anodising, which is why it dominates architectural extrusion.
Mechanical strength is moderate compared with 6061, so 6063 is normally chosen where finish, profile complexity and corrosion resistance matter more than maximum structural load.
Typical characteristics
- Excellent extrudability for complex and thin-walled profiles
- Good anodising and surface finish response
- Good corrosion resistance
- Moderate mechanical strength relative to 6061
Typical applications
- Window, door and curtain wall systems
- Architectural and decorative profiles
- Furniture, lighting and display sections
- General purpose extruded profiles

Specification information buyers should provide
Accurate requirement definition allows a faster and more reliable capability review. When enquiring about 6063, please provide:
- Billet diameter and cut length
- Chemistry range or referenced standard
- Homogenisation and surface quality requirements for anodising quality profiles
- Ultrasonic testing and inspection requirements
- Quantity, destination port, Incoterm and delivery period

Questions
6063 — frequently asked questions
What are 6063 aluminium billets?
They are homogenised extrusion logs of 6063, an aluminium-magnesium-silicon alloy selected for extrudability, surface finish and anodising response.
What are typical 6063 applications?
6063 is widely used for window and door systems, curtain walling, architectural and decorative profiles, furniture sections and general extruded profiles.
Which dimensions and documentation should buyers specify?
Specify diameter, cut length, chemistry or standard, homogenisation and surface quality expectations, ultrasonic testing requirements, quantity, destination and required certificates.
Is 6063 suitable for structural applications?
6063 has moderate strength. Where higher structural performance is required, buyers commonly evaluate 6061 or 6082 against the design requirement.
