The specialist aluminium trading and supply business of MET ASIA Group

Specification Support

Specification-Driven Aluminium Sourcing

Most aluminium supply problems begin with an incomplete requirement. Before any producer is approached, MET ASIA Alloys works with the buyer to fix the grade and chemistry basis, packing, documentation and inspection expectations for the transaction.

Requirement Definition

The commercial specification checklist

These are the points we confirm before a requirement is taken to producers and suppliers.

Specification points confirmed per transaction

Grade basisStandard referenced, or the buyer's internal chemistry specification
Chemistry toleranceCritical elements, maximum impurity limits and reporting method
QuantityPer shipment and expected programme or annual volume
PackingIngot bundle, billet log length, strapping and handling constraints
DestinationCountry, port and preferred Incoterm
Delivery periodRequired window and any phased schedule
DocumentationMill test certificate, chemistry report, origin and shipping documents
InspectionProducer inspection or independent third-party arrangement

Why It Matters

Cost of an unclear requirement

  • Producers quote against different assumptions, making offers incomparable
  • Chemistry variation appears only after melting, when scrap cost is already incurred
  • Packing mismatches create handling and furnace charging problems at destination
  • Missing certification delays customs clearance and end-customer acceptance

What We Coordinate

Through to execution

  • Comparable offers on a like-for-like specification basis
  • Inspection arrangements agreed before production or loading
  • Documentation sets aligned to destination requirements
  • Logistics, delivery responsibilities and shipment scheduling

Questions

Specification questions

What is specification support?

It is the commercial and technical review we carry out before sourcing: confirming the grade and chemistry basis, packing, documentation and inspection expectations so that producers quote against the same requirement.

Can MET ASIA Alloys advise on alloy selection?

We can outline how commonly traded grades differ in castability, strength, machinability and corrosion behaviour. Final alloy selection remains the responsibility of the buyer and its technical team.

Is specification support a certification service?

No. Certification, testing and inspection are carried out by producers and independent third parties. We coordinate what is required and confirm it per transaction.

Technical information is provided for general commercial guidance. Alloy selection remains the responsibility of the buyer, and chemistry, certification and inspection arrangements are subject to producer capability and confirmed per transaction.
